Fatal Fury 2
Fatal Fury 2 picks up after Geese Howard's defeat in the original, with a mysterious nobleman sponsoring a worldwide King of Fighters tournament to flush out whoever toppled him. SNK opened the roster up in 1992, taking the Bogard brothers and Joe Higashi global and adding Mai Shiranui, Kim Kaphwan, Cheng Sinzan, Jubei Yamada, and the boss-tier Wolfgang Krauser. The two-plane fighting system from the first game stays, with characters hopping between foreground and background rails mid-fight.
Mechanically it is a generational leap over Fatal Fury, with bigger sprites, faster pacing, and the Desperation Move, the first proper super in any SNK fighting game, triggered when your life bar flashes red. The arcade original landed first, then the SNES, Mega Drive, and Neo Geo CD ports brought it home. It is the bridge between the original Fatal Fury and Fatal Fury Special, and the foundation everything KOF would later inherit.
