Garou: Mark of the Wolves

Garou: Mark of the Wolves is SNK's 1999 Neo Geo masterpiece, the soft reboot of Fatal Fury that handed the lead to Rock Howard, Geese's son raised by Terry Bogard. The ACA Neo Geo release from HAMSTER ports the arcade original to Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC with online versus, save states, and a tuning pass on display options. The 14-character roster is small by SNK standards but stacked.

The T.O.P. system lets you pick a third of your life bar to act as a buff zone with bonus damage, regen, and access to a unique super, which forces real decisions about lifebar management. The Just Defend mechanic rewards tight blocking with chip recovery and meter, predating the parry conversation Third Strike would dominate. Two decades later, Garou still gets called the prettiest 2D fighter SNK ever shipped.
