The King of Fighters '99

The King of Fighters '99: Millennium Battle is the sixth mainline KOF and the start of the NESTS arc, with SNK rebooting the formula in 1999 on Neo Geo arcades and AES. K' steps in as the new lead while older faces shuffle into the background, and the four-on-one Striker system replaces the old three-fighter team structure. Calling in a teammate for a single attack adds a chess layer to neutral.

Seven canon teams plus four edit-only fighters fill out the lineup, with bosses Krizalid and Original Zero waiting at the top. Counter Mode and Armor Mode split the old MAX gauge into two distinct stances, so you pick between extra damage or super armor on the fly. The Saturn and Dreamcast ports added Krizalid as playable, and the soundtrack still gets quoted in modern KOF retrospectives.
